Encompass® SDK Sunset: A Guide for Lenders
On December 31, 2026, ICE Mortgage Technology will retire the legacy Encompass® Software Development Kit. After the sunset, the desktop and server SDK components will no longer receive updates or support, and lenders that continue to depend on them risk operational disruption, security exposure, and the inability to upgrade Encompass. The transition is not optional — it is a firm deadline set by ICE, and every integration that touches the SDK today must be re-platformed before it arrives.
What is affected. The sunset covers the legacy Encompass SDK and the components built on top of it, including custom loan plugins, SDK-driven input forms, and event or service integrations that relied on the older extension model. These integrations are commonly used for custom data entry, automated underwriting workflows, third-party service calls, and partner connectivity. Each of them must be rebuilt against the modern Encompass Platform Services APIs.
What replaces it. ICE's replacement path is an API-first architecture exposed through the Encompass Developer Portal. REST endpoints, webhook events, and hosted integrations replace the tightly coupled SDK calls of the past, giving lenders a more maintainable, cloud-friendly, and auditable integration model. The move also opens the door to better automation, cleaner vendor integrations, and stronger support for the compliance and reporting requirements lenders face today.
How MWP helps. Mortgage Workflow Partners guides lenders through this shift using our Workflow Before Technology® methodology: we map the existing SDK workflows first, identify what each one truly needs to accomplish, and then design the API-based replacement around the business process rather than the old code. The result is a migration plan that lands on time, reduces risk, and leaves lenders with integrations that are easier to maintain long after the 2026 deadline. Ask MWP a question about your specific transition.
